Dr Chris Mukiza Uganda Bureau of Statistics Executive Director says he won’t resign despite public outcry over UBOS census errors in the final 2024 census results released by the body.

“i won’t resign. What have I done wrong to be dumped like KCCA directors over Kiteezi. Let those doubting thomases who have been fighting me go and hang,”Mukiza reacted.

“I advise the public to accept census results because there will be no other census for the next 10 years,”he stressed.

He made the remarks while responding to journalist during a media breakfast meeting in Kampala

His reaction comes following numerous public concerns over census results especially regarding the population figures in terms of tribes and religion accusing UBOS of cooking figures.
UBOS Deputy Executive Director, Vincent Ssenono said a mishap of tribes figures only happened during the compilation of the final report.
“It’s not true that the population of some tribes reduced as shown. The 2014 figures were perfect but the problem was in the final reports. The population of Bakiga was swapped with that of Bagisu and it is a human error,” Senono said.

He however clarified that statistics show that majority of major tribes registered a growth adding that there was a 2.4% growth rate for Baganda, Banyankore, Basoga, Bateso and Bakiga.
“As UBOS, we say to error is human. When you note an error, you call the public and inform them of it.”Senono stressed.
However Mukiza said,“Statistics popuation of Catholics, Muslims and Anglicans is growing at a lower rate than other religions. The population for Roman Catholics increased from 13,426520 to 16612537 but in terms of percentage relative to total population, it remains slow but doesn’t mean total population is reducing,” Ssenono said.
