As days to census nite approaches, Uganda Bureau of Statistics has announced massive recruitment exercise aimed to beef up census exercise.

According to Uganda Bureau of Statistics officials, Uganda will hold her census on 9th May 2024.

According to UBOS officials atotal of 132,943 staff will be required to work as census enumerators to help in the forthcoming exercise of the National Population and Housing census exercise due in May this year.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is an agency of the Ugandan government. Formed by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, the agency is mandated to “coordinate, monitor and supervise Uganda’s National Statistical System”

In asimilar advert published in the newspaper dailies last week, Ubos, the national statistics body indicated that of these, 114,460 will serve as census enumerators while 18,483 census enumeration supervisors deployed all over the country.

“Ubos is seeking dynamic, experienced, and competent persons for the following positions to carry out the census exercise,” the job advert reads in part.

The advert further indicates that the census enumeration supervisors will undertake effective census supervision of the enumeration exercise in the assigned supervision area, while enumerators are to conduct census enumeration in all the enumeration areas assigned.

But UBOS Communication Manager Didacus Okoth, clarified that application for the position is purely online with the recruitment exercise set to conclude by March 15.

“Recruitment is purely online and we we already have the infrastructure in place to ensure people are ready to apply and the system can run in terms of selection,” Okoth said.

” UBOS will offer training to district officials who will be responsible for recruitment at the district level and will be able to select those who will have gone through the process,” he stressed.

He however explained that after the recruitment exercise successful applicants will be taken through training on how to use the census gadgets as the exercise will be strictly online.

” After the selection, we shall have those who successfully went through, and trained. We shall have training at the national level, district level, and at sub-county level. Those who will be trained at the national level, will train those at district level, and then those will train the other ones at sub-counties on how to use the gadgets,” Okoth said.
