Under pressure to sack all corrupt civil servants in government, President Museveni has fired scandalous Ministry of Trade Permanent Secretary (PS) Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa, replacing her with Alex Kakooza.
Alex Kakooza of recent had bern serving as Principal Private Secretary to the Vice President.
Ssali was arrested and charged on July 18th 2024 before the Anti-Corruption Court for causing financial loss and conspiring with Members of Parliament to steal shs 3.4billion meant for compensation of co-operatives.
Secretary to Cabinet confirmed appointment of Kakooza, who is currently the Principal Private Secretary to the Vice President.
“Because the ministry had an emergency we had to appoint someone to care take that position and for now he is still a care taker”, Nakyobe said.
Kakooza, served as Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Education and Sports until July 2021 when he was transferred to the President’s Office.
Uganda loses closes 10trillion annually to corruption related deals according to Inspectorate of Government (IGG).
Further more Transparency International’s 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index,Uganda ranked 141st among the 180 countries in the Index of highly corrupt countries.
