USE CENSUS RESULTS TO IMPLEMENT GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES MDAS ADVISED

Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked Ministries, Departments and Agencies to use 2024 census results to implement government programmes to benefit the population.

She has also asked Uganda Bureau of Statistics to create more awareness about the new census findings for planning purposes.

Uganda’s total population as per May 2024 based n the National Population and Housing Census 2024 stands at 45,905,417 persons with the Male population recorded at 21,566,736 while the Female is recorded at 24,338,681 persons and the growth rate is recorded at 2.9

According to Uganda Bureau of Statistic (UBOS) National Population and Housing Census indicates that 12.6% of National Population in Uganda is unemployed.

According to UBOS Executive Director Dr Chris Mukiza of the Uganda’s Population of 45,909,417 people Males are 21,566,736 (47%) Females are 24,338,681 (53%)

Dr Mukiza however says 12.6% of Uganda’s population from the age 14-64 years are currently Jobeless but 14.4% of the population are willing to work but have no jobs.

He further said that at total of 25.2 millions from the age of 14-60 years are working both employed or self employed making it a total of 56.7%. “38% of total population is employed.

According to Census report, life expectancy rate has increased from 63.7% to 68.2% meaning that death rate for males is at 66.9 years while female is 70.1 years.

Meanwhile fertility rate stands at 4.5% meaning that every woman in Uganda has the capacity to produce about four children.

The report further indicates that literacy rate has shot to 74% meaning educated people have increased.

On Religion the Report shows that Catholic takes higher population which 37.4% followed by Protestants 30%. Pentacostals has taken over third place at 14.7% Moselems constitute 13.6% while Seventh day come last with 2.1%. According to report, Buganda tribe leads in population with over 7 million people followed by Banyakole 4.2 millions and Basoga come third with 3.7 million. The Census report says Mortality of infants is at 34% and those who die before five years is at 46%.

On technology the report says 43% of total population in Uganda own phones from 38% in the last population. The report indicates that 66% own houses while 25% still rent.

On health issues the report says 7% of total population lacks toilets in the homes and Karamoja leads the race with 60.2% while 28% share toilets. On crime rate, the report shows there is increase. 87.8% is theft and robbery, 48.1 land eviction and grabbing , 25.5% is murder while 33.3 is cattle theft.
