Pressed with census road map deadline, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has embarked on data processing, editing and analysis to hit December 24th target period for final census report.
The Bureau posted impressive 99% enumeration coverage according to UBOS Executive Director Dr Dr Chris Mukiza has revealed.
Presiding over a press briefing shortly after completing census exercise country wide, Mukiza, thanked local government officials and general public for humble corporation and full participation in the census exercise.
“The Bureau considers the enthusiasm in the Census 2024 as a sign of confidence in the Census processes. We extend our gratitude to the Local Governments leaders, District/ City Planners. District/ City Information Technology Officers, District / City Communication Officers, Sub-County and Parish Chiefs, as well as Local Council 1 & 2 for effectively spearheading Census activities from the District to the Village level,”Mukiza said.
“As the Bureau we are grateful for your commitment and determination towards completing the assigned Enumeration Areas within allocated time, ” he added.
Mukiza said the Bureau is committed to Census Roadmap signed by President Yoweri Museveni in December 2023 stressing that now that enumeration exercise is complete UBOS will now embark on data processing, editing and analysis to present preliminary results on 24th June 2024.
“This will be followed by provisional results on 24th September 2024 and final report will be published on 24th December 2024, “Mukiza explained.
Comparing this years edition of census to previous one 2014,Mukiza said this years raw data shows a significant increase in number of single households size compared to the Census 2014.
In line with the Internationally accepted best practice, Mukiza said Post Enumeration Survey (PES) will be carried out in July to validate census coverage and quality of data collected during the main Census enumeration.
He noted that PES is an independent statistical activity to be conducted by a team of experts that did not participate in the just concluded Census exercise.
The National Housing and Population Census exercise kicked off on May 10, 2024 and ended officially on May 19, 2024 however, due to the technical glitches at the start of the census exercise, the Executive Director, Dr.Chris Mukiza issued a statement extending the exercise by six more days until May 25, 2024.
Ministry of Finance sunk about 333 billion into the exercise for purpose of getting quality data for planning purposes.
UBOS last conducted census 2014 posting country’s population as of 46 million.
