EXPERTS TO MEET ICT SUMMIT AS ICTAU MARKS 10 YEARS JOURNEY

ICT experts are sdt to coverge in the Inaugural National ICT Summit 2024, which is scheduled for October 23rd – 24th 2024 at the Kampala Serena Hotel to discuss, deliberate, and advance “Economic Competitiveness through Strategic and Sustainable Digital Transformation.”

ICT State Minister Baluku Kabyanga says this summit holds particular significance as it marks the 10-year anniversary of the ICT Association of Uganda (ICTAU).

“For the past decade, ICTAU has served as the leading voice of Uganda’s ICT sector. As the convener of this summit, ICTAU has played an instrumental role in driving innovation, policy advocacy, and digital transformation across the country. What began in 2014 as a platform for uniting ICT professionals and organizations has grown into a pivotal force in shaping Uganda’s digital economy, “he said.
” We are proud of what has been accomplished over the past 10 years, and this summit is a reflection of the continued commitment of ICTAU to advancing the ICT agenda in Uganda and beyond,”Kabyanga added.

He explained that the summit will provide a neutral and collaborative platform where government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and digital enthusiasts can explore the potential of digital technologies to drive economic growth and national development.
“This summit is also aligned with the goals set forth in the Digital Transformation Roadmap for Uganda (2023-2027) and the East African Community Regional Digital Strategy (2024-2030). These frameworks are critical to ensuring that Uganda not only remains competitive in the digital age but also plays a central role in the regional and global digital economy, “he stressed.
He called upon all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to actively participate in this summit.

We urge you to bring your expertise and collaborate in shaping the future of Uganda’s digital landscape, “Kabyanga emphasised.
” Your involvement ensures that Uganda remains at the forefront of digital innovation, and that we are building a future where technology empowers every citizen, ”

The ICT sector plays a key role in enabling Uganda’s socio-economic growth. It continues to grow at an average rate of 14.8% and contributes 9% to Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It also employs about 2.3 million people, highlighting its role as a critical driver of employment and livelihood.
