JOIN ANTICORRUPTION CAMPAIGNS TO DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY INTERNAL AFFAIRS MINISTER TELLS GRADUATES

Internal Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire has challenged graduates to join anticorruption campaigns to demand accountability from ruling government and other public leaders so as to have equal share of develop country wide.

Officiating at the 29th Graduation ceremony for Kampala International University on Saturday, Otafiire said current leaders are swindling resources meant for country development yet the ruling government went to bush to fight these injustices.

“Do not allow people to tell you, we are stealing on your behalf. Leaders do not steal,” Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire.

Otafiire stressed that good leaders must do the right thing and stop accusing people of hate speech simply because they have pointed out their ills.

“If you are in leadership, you have to be upright and accountable. Those of you in authority, stop confusing demand for accountability with hate speech.”Otafiire said.

He urged young people to support those who stand up for what is right so that saying the struggle for freedom and justice is not in vain.

Recently National Unity Platform leaders scoffed at sh 1.7 billion service award and the 17billion Uganda Human rights commisdion scandal where number of MPs were involved in bribes to increase National Budget for Uganda Human Rights Commission.

About 10trillion is lost annualy in Uganda due to corruption according to IGG survey last year.

KIU Board of Trustee Alhajji Hassan Basajjabalaba cautioned graduates to work hard and stop despising jobs to succeed.

“Don’t fall prey to corruption but join the forces to fight rampant corruption in the employment sector,” he said.

Basajjabalaba advised graduates to be good ambassadors t9. Market the university.

“Listen more,talk little, work hard and be honest in your dealing to represent us well. KIU is best known for producing quality human resource hence do good to market us out there,” he added.

According to recent webometric rankings Kiu emerged number one private university in Uganda and 3rd in the Region.
