Uganda Census Commissioner and Executive Director of the National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Dr Chris Mukiza has challenged legislators to preach messages of census to their voters so as to popularise forth coming digital Census scheduled for May 9th.
Officiating at aspecial breakfast meeting fot Members of Parliament at Serena Hotel in Kampala Mukiza said involvement of policy makers will help easy public view of census exercise.
“Many people have misunderstanding about Census and they don’t want to give us information. They think counting them and their assets may lead to heavy taxes,” Mukiza said.
” As Mps help us to mobilise voters to be counted. Forth coming Census is not political and we have no interest in their property. Data information is for planning purposes,” Mukiza explained.
Commenting about census preparations, Mukiza told legislators that preparations for the May Census are at 98% ready.
Mukiza said UBOS procured 120,000 tablets and technical team are already installing software.
Mukiza further told legislators that Census results will be released in June while the procured tablets will remain at the Parish level to collect data for the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme.
In agreement legislators pledged to work with the Bureau to mobilise voters for census counting exercise saying good statistics will help government in proper planning and budget allocation of resources.
